New Toy

#1

Post by KingNothing13 »

My Nexus II and encoders for the AD10 came yesterday.

I went with the 8192-step azimuth encoders to save a little $$, as well as the Nexus II instead of the DSC as I have SkySafari Pro so I can use that instead of the DSC and its catalog.

It is going to rain all day tomorrow so I will (hopefully) do the encoder install sometime during the day.

That's the set-up I have. It's a huge improvement over my Wixey and DIY az circle.

If you haven't done the install yet, it was easy and quick.

And, of course, I ran into an issue right out of the block.

The ground board for my AD10 is the old OpticsMart custom with the setting circles on it.

Apparently this is slightly different than the stock GSO board as the bolt for the AZ is too big for the threaded insert.

I knocked the threaded insert out and just made do - I do not think it will affect anything, at least I hope..

/sigh - Because nothing ever is easy for me....this is going into tomorrow, at least.

Besides the issue above, which I've emailed Serge asking if he thinks it'll be safe, the magnetic tape isn't sticking immediately with the Goop 2 that I am using - we are assuming it isn't building a strong enough bond, so we have it clamped on there, but it needs ~24 hours to set.....

So yeah.

Here's hoping that it is worth the time, effort, and money.

Whew - well, it is finally done. Testing it inside, in the daylight - seems to work.

Can't wait to get it out under the stars - hopefully for a bit tonight!
