Still Looking For A Taller Observation Chair

#1

Post by Refractordude »

The advertising stated that the new chair on the left side of the image is 36 inches tall. However, it is a little shorter than the 28 inch chair that I already own. Maybe I should buy a non adjustable 36 inch stool. Any under $50 suggestions? Thanks to you all

If you do not mind doing some wood work you can find plans for a Catsperch Chair online and make it as tall as you wish.

If the stool is not as advertised, can you send it back?

You must be very tall indeed to need a stool with a 36" seat height. I don't think it is going to be easy to find such an item. The tallest wheeled stool I could find was this one, at 34" https://www.americangamingsupply.com/bo ... MUQAvD_BwE

Rather pricey.

If you search for "extra tall bar stools," you can find some with heights greater than 34", but they are not cheap either, they are not adjustable, and they don't look suitable for outdoor use. So I think you might need to consider building your own chair.
Scopes: Vixen VMC200L, D=200mm, F=1950, f/9.75; Televue 2" Everbright diagonal. Coronado PST; AstroTech EDT 80mm, F=480, f/6.
Mounts: Vixen SXW/Starbook (original); Stellarvue M2C alt-az.
Eyepieces: Televue: 55mm Plossl, 22mm Panoptic, 17.3mm Delos, 13mm Nagler, c. 1980, 11mm Plossl, 7mm Nagler, 5mm Radian; Meade 15mm Super Plossl; VERNONSCOPE 2.4X BARLOW
Binoculars: Leica 8x32 Trinovids, circa 1997; Orion Megaview 20x80, Orion Paragon Plus mount.

My new scope is long. With the planets being low the eyepiece is to high for the observation chair that I have. I can stand up, but then I have to bend my back a little/ouch after a while. I may just get something at the Walmart hardware section to stand on. Thanks for the search you did for me. That chair may just work. I could remove the back and foot rest. That would make it more portable. Yes I could just take the new chair to the nearest Walmart for a refund.

You’re welcome. Good luck finding something that works!

More like $100, but you might check Vestil chairs. I wouldn’t be without mine. Not sure about max height, but I’m thinking it’s close to 36 inches.

If you are not into constructing your observing chair, the defacto chair to purchase is the Vestil CPRO-600 chair from Amazon. It's a bit pricey but it will last nearly forever.

Another thought here:

https://www.amazon.com/Folding-Convenie ... NrPXRydWU=

Not as many intermediate positions as the Vestil, but a lot cheaper.

I thought about getting one for outreach events, but with outreach on hold, I haven't yet. There are several variants on amazon, some with handrails, etc.

I love my starbound chair (works great with my Dob, not sure about other styles, but I suspect it's just as good) - but it doesn't look like it is available anymore, and when it is, WAY out of your price range.

The Vestil chairs are pretty much the same exact design though.

I would say it is worth spending more on a good comfortable chair, even if you have to save up for it.

Ay carumba! I paid about $115 for my Vestil a year or so ago, but it's a different model. I used a 2-step stepladder before that but it wasn't nearly as comfortable.
