Any experiences with the Meade zoom? Thinking it might be convenient for lunar in my Mak.

I dont have Meade but the celestron which I believe to be similar , it works great in the 90 Mak on 8mm its around 60 and on 24 does down to around 40 APOF , I used it as a spotter scope , for Lunar perfect
Reflectors GSO 200 Dobs
Refractors None
SCT C5 on a SLT mount
Mak 150 Bosma on a EQ5

On paper the Meade and Celestron 8-24mm zooms have pretty much the same specs but I don't know if they come from different manufacturers with different optics, coatings, etc. There is a lower cost SVBony zoom as well.

Like Richard, I have the Celestron zoom and I enjoy it more on my Z8 dob than on my 102AZ refractor. The views just seem brighter and crisper on the dob. It is especially useful on cold winter nights when I don't want to take my gloves off to switch eyepieces. It aides star hopping and I learned from John Baar that sometimes, when you are looking for faint galaxies, you can slowly turn the zoom in/out to tease out some detail though I think he has a really nice Baader zoom.

IMO not a good match for 90mm Mak. Your Mak is F13.8. This means that majority of your observing will be done in 14mm-40mm EP range. So, you will be using about half of 8-24mm zoom range. Another consideration is that Mak has a narrow field of view, so you want as wide FOV in EPs as possible. There are quite few fixed 1.25" EPs in 20-25mm FL range with 60-70deg FOV on the market. Meade zoom has only 40 deg FOV at 24mm - very limiting.
Scopes: Stellarvue: SV102ED; Celestron: 9.25" EdgeHD, 8" SCT, 150ST, Onyx 80ED; iOptron: Hankmeister 6" Mak; SW: 7" Mak; Meade: 80ST.
Mounts: SW: SkyTee2, AzGTi; iOptron: AZMP; ES: Twilight I; Bresser: EXOS2; UA: MicroStar.
Binos: APM: 100-90 APO; Canon: IS 15x50; Orion: Binoviewer, LG II 15x70, WV 10x50, Nikon: AE 16x50, 10x50, 8x40.
EPs: Pentax: XWs & XFs; TeleVue: Delites, Panoptic & Plossls; ES: 68, 62; Vixen: SLVs; Baader: BCOs, Aspherics, Mark IV.
Diagonals: Baader: BBHS mirror, Zeiss Spec T2 prism, Clicklock dielectric; TeleVue: Evebrite dielectric; AltairAstro: 2" prism.
Filters: Lumicon: DeepSky, UHC, OIII, H-beta; Baader: Moon & SkyGlow, Contrast Booster, UHC-S, 6-color set; Astronomik: UHC.
