My main DSO hunting EP kit consists of Pentax XW 5,7,10,14,20mm, ES68 24mm, Baader Aspheric 31,36mm and RO Plossl 50mm

All except 50mm Plossl have ~70 deg FOV and ~20mm eye relief and I like to keep it that way.

Most of them are spaced by 1.3-1.4x (which I am aiming for) except XW20 - ES68 24mm and Baader 36mm - 31mm pairs, which are too close for my liking. As a result ES68 24mm and Baader 31mm don't get used much.

It just occurred to me that TV Panoptic 27mm would fit perfectly between 20mm and 36mm, and thus could replace 24mm and 31mm in my kit. Any particular reason I should not get?

I can't think of a single reason not to get it. The Pan 27 is my all-time favourite eyepiece! It's the one I use when I want to impress people.

Agreed. It's wonderful in my f5 scope. In my f7 it's the Pan 35.

Though I no longer have the P27, I found it to be a very nice eyepiece in most of my scopes.
Easy eye placement, no blackouts, nicely sharp.
In the end I went with for the N22T4 and N26T5 for their wider AFoV....

For your lineup the P27 makes more sense than the 24/31 you have......

I agree with the others, it would work in fine with your lineup and no reason I can think of to not get one.

Paul, I don't know if you heard. OPT is no longer a brick and mortar store. They do most of their business on-line. You can schedule an appointment to pick up your purchase, but no walk-ins and no demo room to check out scopes and such.

Yes, I was in their new neighborhood and stopped by, only to be greeted by a rather closed-looking warehouse. Still not too far away if you order something and want to pick it up.

Are you kidding me!!! One of the great joys in life, when visiting SoCal, was to drive to Oceanside just to drool inside that store. Now I'm bummed. :Boo: Well, at least they're still in business.

If you feel like contemplating a bit, then you can contemplate between the Pan 27mm and the ES68 28mm

The latter is waterproof and cheaper.

I bought the Panoptic 27mm in the late 90's. It is my preferred eyepiece. I always use it first when locating objects and then usuallly go to the TeleVue 16mm.
It gives sharp and very contrasty images with my 14.5" Starmaster . It is great on viewing clusters and dense star fields. I never regret buying it. You will love it.

Sounds great. I've worked out that if I use my 2" Baader dielectric in my ED72 I can get away with the combined weight of the 27mm Pan.

Baader 'ClickLock DiElectric': 425g
Sky-Watcher dielectric: 390g

I weighed all my 2" diagonals, in my defence, it's been cloudy lol.

That's a nice collection of diagonals SB! Last winter I weighted mine, measured aperture and focuser travel.
I also weighted and measured all my EPs. One have to entertain themselves.
