I would not consider Meade deceiving anyone, it is not like this is the first time a company has sold another manufacturers product under their own branding.
It will be interesting to see if Meade has paid for a higher level of QC on these though.

A 30% premium for better (some versus none) QC is reasonable.

Hopefully someone will review them, a little extra polish or better applied coating do not cost much so the pretty colours and box may not account for much.

Some very low cost glass. Can't recall seeing a set of eyepieces for less. Then again I have an old Ramsden 0.965" and Symmetrical 0.965" left over from a 1960's vintage f/12 refractor I was gifted by my uncle 40 years ago. Can't say those are worth much.

I don't think Svbony makes them, more likely Meade has contracted with the same manufacturer and hopefully demands higher QA. My concern is that does the Meads still use one or more plastic elements in them like the Svbonys do. I found that out in a review, think it was Cloudy Nights. That is what turned me away from them, plastic has this nasty habit of ageing and off gassing.

Could be a roomer, but I'll stay away until there is more info.
I'm here to do two things, build something and dump some light down it.

There is plastic in the Svbonys Aspheric that I own. However, it is very very very clear plastic. The three eyepieces are a great bargain for someone getting into the hobby with a tight budget. They are diffidently way better than stock eyepieces that come with starter scopes.

Various acrylics have been used for lenses over the years with no ill effects, being in a enclosed area out of direct UV/ IR I imagine they would last a considerable amount of time before becoming detrimental to the views.

I have heard the SvBony 23mm is an adequate eyepiece for the price and the 9mm is quite good if the field lens is removed which turns it into a 11mm.

I have the Nikon 10x50 Aculon binoculars with such an aspheric lens and I like them very much. I don't think they get much UV at night. ;)

Exactly my point, ageing and outgassing should be a non issue with these.
I would expect more ageing and outgassing from the foam in my eyepiece and telescope cases than a lens.
Which does remind me I need to replace some case foam as one is getting a crunchy feel to it ;)

I have purchased these before, I think they were under the name "Vite" and paid a lot less than that (from China). I think I still have them.

They actually work rather well in the Meade 90mm refractor as I recall. I do recall using one in the ETX-90 (I have taken them for outreach events in the past).

If all else fails, they make very nice dust-plugs I suppose.

I am just kind of old fashioned. There are just too many excellent eyepieces that are all glass at a decent price. But, if you get what you want or need from whatever you use that is fine wiht me.

Oh no, anything but the plastic fantastics ... I have no idea who actually manufactures these. Somewhere in the PRC no doubt.

Image

The 23mm isn't bad in a slow scope and can hold its own with a similar focal length Plossl.

Image

The 4mm basically becomes a spectrometer around f/6 or faster.

Image

I still have a couple of the 10mm's in my bino box. I just don't know why lol.
