Hmm. A Galilean triplet!

Most likely a hold over from when eyepieces were between 15° and 50°
I still prefer ones less than 50°
Why less?

It's easier to design for high contrast and distortion free optics with a smaller AFOV. It's an optical fact that wider AFOVs suffer from aberrations than standard AFOV eyepieces.

The use of plastics for lenses is only the future for low cost optics that perform well for the price. I don't see these becoming as good as glass in my or my grandkids lifetimes.
[/quote]

You are likely right about the performance of glass, but on the "low-cost" part my optometrist and the Luxottica monopoly gleefully burn a $600+ hole in my credit card every time I get plastic eyeglasses. Coke bottle glass pairs? That's the cheap stuff. My eyeglasses are transitional for astigmatism and reading, UV protection coated, antiscratch, ~4mm thick, etc. It is remarkable how much better they are than what I wore just ten or so years ago.

I'd welcome advances in material science as they trickle down into eyepiece design, maybe not to be better than glass, but for added versatility.

These have been previously offered under the Vite and Svbony labels.
It's interesting to see Meade has already discontinued them.

I was surprised at how short a time Meade had these for sale.
Probably not as surprised when they announced they were selling them though.

Celestron Xcel LXs are the same optically, plenty around.

Meade HD-60s have red bands, nice for bino viewing. I have a pair of 25mm, honourary Delites. Meade UK still have stock of HD-60s.

I'm looking at the date on my original post and realized it was less than a month and a half later that Meade filed for Chapter 11. Maybe that had something to do with their short tenure.

It is a possibility, it will be interesting to see what happens with Meade over the next months.

The Vite/Svbony/Meade Aspheric 62 dregree 10mm is very sharp, but with poor eye relief. The 23mm is just as sharp as the GSO 20mm Superview.

According to:

Orion is acquiring Meade?
"Meade’s Reorg Plan Sending Assets to Competitor Orion Approved
April 30, 2021, 1:44 PM
Plan transfers operating assets to competitor
Other creditors to get 15% to 30% recoveries
Meade Instruments Corp.'s Chapter 11 reorganization plan won court approval, setting the stage for transferring the telescope manufacturer’s assets to a competitor, Orion Telescopes and Binoculars. Under the plan, Orion, which was Meade’s largest unsecured creditor, will receive substantially all of Meade’s “operating assets,” including cash, accounts receivable, inventory, intellectual property, and fixtures and equipment. Other unsecured creditors will recover between 15% and 30% of their claims, depending on what claims remain after objections are resolved, the company said. Insider creditors and equity holders get nothing under the plan. The plan, approved after an April 28 hearing..."

I had a pair of 23mm's used in binoviewers. IN the binoviewers, they were good. I tried one of them in a 10" F/4.7 and it was really bad, lol.

Honestly I dont think plastic eyepieces will ever take over glass , its just a phase to make more money , electronic is the way for new kids , sad for me but at the same time great
