New (to me) Pentax XL 40mm

#1

Post by Bigzmey »

Pentax XWs are easily my favorite EP line of all time. A few months ago I have completed 1.25" XW lineup by acquiring 3.5mm and being eyeballing XW 2" 30mm and 40mm. However, I like EPs in my sets to be about the same weight and XW 30 and 40mm are twice as heavy as their 1.25" counterparts. After looking for alternatives I went with TV Panoptics 27mm for 30mm slot and today I picked used Pentax XL 40mm in like new shape! Can't wait to give it a shot. It has 65 deg FOV compared to 70 deg of XW but 12oz lighter. The EP has not been shipped yet but the clouds are already gathering.

Don't do it or you will get Pentaxitis and have to buy the whole set! ;)

Pentax XL40 has arrived and it is a beauty. It is compact and lightweight for 2" EP, and comes with two eyeguards which give you three modes shown below. On the left is the EP with eyeguard which sets 20mm eye relief; in the middle is eyeguard for use with eyeglasses; and for those who like to de-shroud EPs is the option on the right. :D

A lucky buy! I have a Vixen 42mm LVW, which has 65° AFOV and is fairly lightweight for its focal length.
