Meade 14mm 82 degree "no name" from Astronomics

#1

Post by John Fitzgerald »

I received mine yesterday. Tried it out last night. It works great. It's almost Nagler-like, and for $80, was a bargain.

Anyone else here get one?

Mike, with Astronomics, sent an email to their mailing list on May 6 announcing this eyepiece for sale. From reading various posts on CN, it seems that the eyepiece sold out within a matter of hours.

If you're curious, the mail that was sent can be read (in your browser) here:

https://mailchi.mp/astronomics/best-eye ... bad8d99fa2

Cheers! Bob F.

I happened to see the email that same afternoon, and immediately ordered. They were gone by the next day.

You have to love a seconds sale caused by a contractor forgetting to silkscreen the company name onto he object!

I got one too, and it is pretty good though I only used it briefly this weekend. It was an impulse buy and maybe not a wise one as I already own an ES 16mm and a StarGuider 12mm. Was hoping it might be parfocal with the ES16 and 8.8, but it's not. The 12mm Agena Starguider is a keeper as it is parfocal with my Meade 5mm MWA.

Need to ponder this one as I slowly move towards a minimalist astronomy set.

I was sorely tempted to order one of those. The 14mm is, in my universe, an outstanding eyepiece and a real workhorse in that series. If I did not already have that series complete, including three focal lengths (4.7, 6.7, and 18mm in 1.25 format from the old days) that were dropped in the water proof line, I would have bought one of these "no names." I saw the email in time to do so, but it would be a completely redundant eyepiece for me. I think anyone that bought one will find it to be an enjoyable eyepiece to use.

What a great deal on a solid EP. Like Bill I would have been all over it if I didn't already own one. I read some where that the Meade UWA's are actually retired in favor of the 5K PWA's, and once stock is gone that's it. Any truth in that?
Telescopes: 10" SkyLine Dobsonian, 6" Apertura F5 Newt, Celestron Nextar GT90, Meade Infinity 80
EP: 5.5mm, 8.8mm, 14mm, 20mm, 24mm Meade 5000 UWA's, BCO's w/ Q-Turret, 26mm, 32mm, 40mm Meade 4000 Plossls, Orion Expanse, 30mm, 20mm, 15mm GSO Superview, Various others.
Binocs: 15x70 Celestron Skymaster, 10x50 Levenhuk Karma Pro, 10x42 Bushnell, 8x42 Sans & Streiffe
Mounts: Meade LX70 with dual axis motors, Celestron GT, More miscellaneous tripods than a Martian invasion.

I did. I have not tried it out yet. I am waiting to take my new AT-115 mm to a dark sky site and try out the new instruments. (I also got a TeleVue eyepiece.)

It is nice to know that you are satisfied. That instills me with some sense of confidence.
