7mm plus 2.5x barlow= 2.8mm

Really needed something between my 2 Tak TOE's 2.5mm and 3.3mm on the planets. The 7 and a Barlow gives 325x right in the middle mostly between 364x and 276x. Got 5 - 7mm's, 2 meades an ortho and erfle oldies then 3 moderns delite, meade pwa, and ts optics remake of UWAN with nitrogen charge.

On Jupiter the TS was the best, not quite the clarity of a Tak abbe 6mm, but then they don't make a 7mm. The meade pwa was really close, almost the same focal point even. Nitrogen charge might be the difference. The Delite was just a little less clear than these two.

Two older meade RG's were really close together but quite a step lower quality view of Jupiter. Always thought the RG's were the best 7mm's but they are way behind the top of the line orthoscopics.

Triple lensed fracs are so yummy when looking at planets.

I really like TS Optics Germany stuff. Their 130mm f7 -53 triple made in China is just outstanding. Continued the 7mm comparison on Mars. The'eye' of Mars was on the edge of planet and used that for testing on how well the eyepiece could define it. Again the order was the same. 1. TS. 2. Meade pwa and 3. DELITE. The 2 RG's were even worse. All the junk floating around in my eye was really noticable in the narrow fields.

It is really nice to see that an 82 degree eyepiece can surpass what was near the best for the planets the TV Delite. Of course the Tak TOE's are as good as anything ever made. Wish they would do a 5 and 6mm.

What is a Meade pwa?
If you want an outstanding 7mm, find a 0.965" Pentax 7mm SMC. Very hard to beat one of those.

You know the new Meade 5000 series, 82 degree, version of the TS Optics UWAN remakes, called a Nirvana at another seller.

Had to go to Meade website to find out what PWA meant. Typical marketing wank... It looks like these are made by Long Perng so should be good.
