Using A 2" Barlow To Keep My Scope Balanced

#1

Post by Refractordude »

My new low power eyepieces are 2" and over 11 ounces. My high power eyepieces are 1.25" and and under 6 ounces. This creates a balancing issue. I purchased this 2" barlow on impulse when I first got into the hobby. I returned all my first purchased 2" eyepieces, but kept this barlow. It is great with my low weight 1.25" eyepieces and keeps my scope balanced. The barlow doubles the focal ratio, so observations are sharp out to the very edge. The barlow also gives me a little bit more eye relief. I also added a old dew shield to my new/bought used 6" f/8 refractor.
