Testing "Portal"

We are in the process testing a new item on the forum today. It's called a "portal" basically what it is, is a 'start' page for the forum. It will display a number of things for someone to used to get to different parts of the forum, plus a one-stop place to view current activity. I have put it live, but have NOT switched to using it as the 'default' starting page I've played a bit and I think it could be of benefit to new and old members alike. So If you want to take a look you will see the word "Portal" just before "TSS Board index" on the 4th row of text at the top of the page, Just click on it and you will see what will become the new 'start page'.

If you have comments or suggestions let me know!

FYI: I'm using the style called pro silver, and I do not see the link to portal that you described.

Many thanks, Gordon, for all you do!

It shows the same as the TSS Board Index, which looks fine to me in itself though I don't know if that was the intention.

I tried that, and the page that I got was identical to the "normal" home page I always see.

I am on the same page as the others (so to speak :)). No difference between the Portal page and the TSS Board Index.

Hi Gordon. I am using the blue screen page frame, as I am used to it on the old AF. I tried the new app link, and I still don't see the portal. Although I am no expert, I have run into this before when creating my own start page, personal website, and Internet auctions. When you are using the command module forum software, it may be making a "call" to a DLL or other files that we don't have yet on the currently existing forum software shown on our computers. Thanks for all of the great and hard work that that you do to make the TSS such an excellent forum Gordon, and I know; "It ain't easy".
:text-thankyoublue:

I'm quite sure it's a permission's problem. I have a newer 'updated' version of the same software that I will be installing shortly. Hopefully it will be visible to members, if not I will set it up so the server points to it instead of the default home page. Then we can tweak it as we go along.

Okay,

It appears the newly registered members and registered members can view to Portal now. I have updated the version of the portal and it's working better. However, all the modifications I created are gone, so I will be working on it to get it back to my liking. If you have comments / suggestions let me know and I will see if it's something we can do.

Works ok for me. Thanks Gordon, it's a nice clean look.

The random member feature is novel! (their photo appears twice!)

Is there a reason the Latest News list is limited to 5 items?

Regards

Graeme

Hi Gordon. I just love the new "portal" edition. So much info on the opening page. The TSS banner is fixed solid, and you corrected the greetings lower g descender cutoff with a separate welcome window, which should be easier to change for the holidays as they come up. However, I recommend a dark blue for the "Photo of the day" part, and a darker orange for the birthdays against the new white background for more contrast, as they are harder to read now. To nitpick now, I still have to go to the index to see all of the sub-forums. If you later eliminate the "index", you will either have to provide a "See All Forums" in the top left menu, or add it to the central table. But, I must say, that what you have started here is just brilliant, and I mean BRILLIANT. Thanks again Gordon, and the kindest of regards.

That's a nice addition, it looks interesting!

How about adding a local sun/moon/weather calendar, for instance like http://clearoutside.com/forecast/34.42/-119.70 ?

I really like that I am a Jupiter ambassador now, before I was a lousy Moon ambassador.
