Greetings from upstate NY

#1

Post by Bener »

New to this forum and astronomy. I just received my very first telescope this past Father’s Day and have been thoroughly enjoying my time viewing the skies. My scope is pretty modest, but I have done a bit of tweaking and added a few eyepieces to enhance my viewing.

I stumbled on this site while searching for some eyepiece info and reviews and decided to join based on what I have seen here. I know that I will learn a lot and hope that I will be able to contribute once I have some more experience and knowledge.

Hello and welcome!
Remember, that questions are contributions too.
In the year (plus some) that I've been hanging around here, I've learned a lot.

BTW, what I read about your scope, it's supposed to be quite good for its price.

Thank you, kind sir.
I don’t have a lot of experience with telescopes, but from my own experience and what experienced users that have used my scope have said, it really does remarkably well for such a modest cost.

What I have learned during my use is that the scope is certainly worthy of quality eyepieces. In other words, spending some $$$ on quality eyepieces is not a waste of $ at all.

Thank you. I used to live in southern Vermont and would frequently visit western Mass, especially to get some “urban” culture like concerts and dining in Northampton and Amherst area. It’s quite beautiful where you are!

Welcome, René! You are off to a good start. Right now, Jupiter and Saturn are easy targets and in the same general area of Capricornus, you can find the double star Algedi (alpha Capricorni) and the triple star Dabih (beta Cap).

Like you, I also got started when my wife and daughter bought me a telescope (for my birthday). The AWB 4-inch tabletop Dobsonian is a great bargain in support of a worthy cause. You made some insightful and intelligent upgrades. You will do well. Keep us informed of your progress.
