Hello from Sacramento, transfer from AF.net

#1

Post by jbrandt » Wed Sep 11, 2019 3:53 am

Hi everyone,

I'm one of the many transfers from AF. I've been out of the game a little while, but trying to get back in it.
I'll update my profile in a bit, but here's my deets.

Celestron 8" Edge HD with an AVX mount, custom poor-man's carry case (Husky tool box on wheels for the mount, weights, and eyepieces and a yellowtop box from homedepot for the OTA).
Poor-man's astrophotog setup, which means I modified a cheap webcam and dink around a bit with free capture and processing software.

My parents of all people invited my family to a Forest Service star party (last one of the season) and that inspired me to dust of the Edge. Unfortunately, an ugly firmware bug with the AVX reared its ugly head and I couldn't get the thing to align. Thought it was user error since it had been a year or so since I had it out. But turns out it was a firmware bug. A simple factory reset fixed it all up.

Got it all set up tonight, to take my first tour in a while.

Anyhoo... looking forward to the forum.
Telescope(s): Celestron 8" Edge HD with AVX mount, Meade ETX80
EPs: Plossl's: 40, 26, 12, 9.7, 6.4, Explore Scientific: ES68-24mm, ES82-11mm
Other stuff: Custom transport case with integrated 12v power, 8" Astrozap solar filter, and a family to enjoy astronomy with!

Hi and welcome to TSS!

Good to have you here.

Only been to a Sacramento once (visiting Yosemite) and really liked the city.

Yeah, those resets and reboots are amazing cures sometimes!

Thanks,
Jim
