Greetings and Salutations

#1

Post by StarGazer20190 »

Hi All,

My name is Steve and I am a new member from Reston Va. USA.

I received my first telescope (Celestron AstroMaster 114EQ) from my lovely wife, Victoria, for Christmas this year. I have had it out several times and am fascinated by the moon.

I am looking forward to seeing many objects in the sky, especially the planets and DSOs!

One interesting fact ... when I was in the Boy Scouts, back in the 1970's) my very first merit badge was in Astronomy! I have always been interested, but have never purchased a telescope until now.

Thank you,

Steve

Hi Steve and welcome to the Forums. I lived in Reston back in the 1970's when my dad was stationed at the Pentagon. I was in kindergarten/first grade at the time.

Hi Steve and welcome to TSS!

You are going to have a grand time with your new scope!

Have you taken a look at the Orion Nebula yet? It is one of the brightest dso’s up there and should be easy to find if you familiarize yourself (or already are familiar) with the easy to spot Orion constellation.

Sky apps for your phone are very helpful.

As you might already know, even the brighter dso’s are still pretty dim. Once you set your scope on one, give your eyes some time to adapt. Some times after a minute or two, they just kind of appear. Newt stuff!

Take care and have fun! Let us know how it goes!
