1. Notifications - See if I got any answers/owe anyone some more info.
2. Off Topic - See what my astro-friends are up to and that everyone is okay.
3. General Astronomy discussions - Catch up on the relevant scientific news.
4. Equipment sub-forums - Depending on what is giving me trouble this week. DIY for the same reason.
5. Beginner's forum - Dumb questions tolerated/answered with good humor.
Any metaphor will tear if stretched over too much reality.

I usually click "new posts" then welcome new users :)

Look and comment on Astro Photographs submitted by the talented folks here.

I stay logged in to the Forum until I'm finished for the day, then I log out.

I have a look in from time to time throughout the day, as home/work commitments allow.

I tend to keep Active Topics open in a browser tab and refresh it before looking through for any new entries.

I keep an eye on the Notifications and New Messages icons too.

I don't tend to respond to very technical threads as I don't have the level of expertise to input any really useful information that will help anyone.

I like to welcome new members to the Forum, as I think that is important.

I particularly like the Off-Topic thread as this is a way of getting to know members better; e.g. what their other interests are, and what they get up to each day, etc.

I start at the main index, then look at notifications, then Your Posts (if any new), then New Posts.

I generally check in twice a day, morning and night. My main search is the "New posts" menu item to see what has happened since my last visit. I check in on my fellow APers, and on anything else that catches my fancy in the moment.

I also think welcoming new members is very important to grow TSS.

Can't tell you how many other hobby forums I have joined, and in a months time maybe received less than 4 welcomes :(
I don't usually stick around those places long.
I tend to think those places are not very active or dying, or just an unfriendly clique :(

General surfing. I keep a TSS tab open all day and check each forum and glance at the subforums. I watch for things that may need commentary or moderator action. Also follow the mod forum closely which allows members of the mod team to discuss any forum issues in real time. This is necessary because members of the team are spread around the world and have different work/sleep schedules. I'm usually on from around 6:30 AM local time to about 5 PM local time, and I check in around 10 PM on my phone.
