The village where I live now is surrounded by skiing areas.
There is about 30 within 5-45 minutes of driving.

There is quite a few in the surrounding area but usually there are very few incidents but recently things have gotten a bit crazy.515bonner wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 1:44 pmAnd minutes within the first sighting of bears?Lady Fraktor wrote: ↑Sat Mar 23, 2024 8:13 pm Good you got to enjoy the snow!

At the moment there are videos of a bear running down a street chasing people.
Liptovský Mikuláš where this occurred is approximately 50 km away.

Is bear hunting permitted there?

Re: What have you been up to lately?
My guess is that the bears can hunt anyone they like, no permit required...Nakedgun wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 8:40 pm~Lady Fraktor wrote: ↑Mon Mar 25, 2024 7:50 pmThere is quite a few in the surrounding area but usually there are very few incidents but recently things have gotten a bit crazy.

Re: What have you been up to lately?
They do not even ask for permission! Quite rude of them.
There is no legal hunting of the bears though there is a yearly cull of 30-35 by the government.
There are currently between 1500- 2500 bears in Slovakia now, the cull has not kept up with their increase.
Bears were hunted almost to extinction in the 1930 and have been protected since.
In 2021 the first person killed by a bear in Slovakia in well over a century occurred and there are between 3-5 people injured by bears yearly but no deaths until last week.

Re: What have you been up to lately?
Those are about the same stats for people being killed by a kangaroo in Australia. One in 2022, and the previous one was 1936...Lady Fraktor wrote: ↑Tue Mar 26, 2024 4:15 am They do not even ask for permission! Quite rude of them.
