Still unpacking. Today I have to uncrate a marble table which weighs a ton. Needs to be hauled up to the 2nd floor.

Just completed a 4-day nostalgia tour of the Upper Peninsula.

Drove by my childhood house and grandparents' former farm, visited the cemetery where my parents, grandparents, and a couple dozen cousins are currently residing, ate a pasty (that's "pass-tee" not "paste-ee" for the uninitiated), took a nap on a Lake Superior Beach, observed the Milky Way in Cygnus under Bortle 2 skies, found an Italian restaurant that blows away anything I've had in Chicago (yeah, bizarre, right?), and caught a HUGE bolide just after dark on the 19th.

Back to the grind and predicted 100* F heat today.

Did my Grand Canyon hike yesterday. While the plan was a North to North rim to rim, I decided to turn around at Ribbon Falls as the sun started cooking the valley. I spent almost 7 hours at Roaring Springs on the way back to let the heat pass. This is roughly the equivalent of a North to South rim to rim, and more than a South to South rim to rim (South Kaibab/Bright Angel). But, the last few miles I was a wreck. My legs feel pretty sore, a few cups of coffee made my headache go away.

Tried my 102ED with SW AZ5 on my Manfrotto 475B this morning. Jello at higher powers. Tonight or tomorrow morning the 102 and ScopeTech Zero get tested on my old Twilight-1 pod. If that doesn't work, I'll try the AZ5. And neither work, it looks like I'll be mount hunting again unless I sell the 102.

Dear Juha,

I am so very very sorry and sad to hear that. My dad was diagnosed with lung tumours in 2004. His was much more advanced than yours sounds. He had one large primary tumour (12cm) in his right lung and 12 secondary tumours 5cm each across both lungs.

Even back then, advances in treatments were made every year and they kept changing treatments to adapt to and control his tumours. He died 7 years later. Because my mum had died the year before, he gave up on living and stopped medication and treatment otherwise I suspect he could have continued for many more years. I hope yours has been caught at a much earlier stage. Given the accelerating rate of advances we were seeing during the 7 years of his illness, I am sure that treatments have advanced much much further in the past 11 years since dad died.

My very best wishes.

Joe
