Something simple for Tuesday - Stuffed baked potatoes.
Onions, mushrooms, broccoli, left over ham, shredded cheese, sour cream.

Not much of a cooking effort but is was so pretty I decided to take a picture anyway.

This isn't what I'm having for dinner, or a recipe, rather, a method: make your own yeast!

I haven't seen yeast on the grocery shelves for quite a while, and I happened to have a packet of yeast for a sourdough starter, from France. It requires activation at 90*F and then expansion at 70*F. A "proof box" I saw goes for over $200 and it's on back order many weeks. But Home Depot came to the rescue with a thermostat plug and a cheap light outlet. I provided the 40W bulb and the insulated "cooler"--in this case a warmer!

Here's the rig with a mason jar of the yeast bubbling away at 90*F.

If this goes well I'll try sampling yeasts off of produce and grains.

Last night it was stewed chicken with mushrooms, shallots, tomatoes, and a red bell over jasmine rice.

Started work before sunrise today. So a very early, easy, and quick to make dinner. Pasta eaten with breakfast turkey sausage and spaghetti sauce. This Organics sauce is real good. Usually my favorite sauce is home made or the Paul Newman's Sackarooni style sauce. The Organics sauce is expensive, but on sale now. So I purchased quite a few jars. I am not into the a health food thing. Just want my food to be real as nature intended.

Hi Refractordude. Now these are two very tasty looking dishes. And no kitchen is complete without a good selection of herbs and seasonings. Great job Refractordude, and thanks for sharing these dishes with us on here.

Hi all. Well, since this is Mother's Day, I wanted to make something special for Sheri for dinner.
We start with a baked ham, with cloves and a light sprinkling of brown sugar:
Baked Ham.JPG
Next, she loves Brussels sprouts, so I made roasted Brussels sprouts, with olive oil, kosher salt, and fresh black pepper:
Roasted Brussels Sprouts.JPG
And finally, fresh cut green beens, with kosher salt and summer savory. After draining, you the top them off with butter:

Now I want to wish all the moms and grandmoms a very happy and special Mother's Day.

I haven't visited this thread in weeks, but that was a nice introduction back here, Marshall! Currently, I'm gathering ingredients for Taco Meatloaf. If I think of it, I will post here.

Amen, Marshall! I already have lots of spices. And I avoid "chili powder" offerings, as they blend multiple chili peppers, chile peppers (there is a difference), add salt, etc.

I get my chili powders online from NYC. "New York City?" like the old El Paso commercial went...

I get them from a Mexican spice shop in Brooklyn called My Spice Sage. Great deals, excellent products.

Yesterday, I spent nearly $80 to resupply the spice table, which diesn't take long.

If anyone is interested, their link is:

You and I are cut from some similar cloth (sorry for you, bro). I lather on sour cream when possible like there's no tomorrow with baked taters, and more than recommended amounts of salted butter as well. I will accept NO substitutes. Margarine is a swear, in my own lexicon anyway.

Hi Eric. My wife got tired of those cheap little 6 bottle spice racks from the store, so I got some rose wood and made her a custom one. Lots of bottles and on the top left are fresh sealed packets from a local specialty store called Mrs. Mangos.

Had a fried egg sandwich last night. Earlier, we celebrated Mother's Day with my Mom by getting some fine cuisine via take-out.

God bless Michael's mom. Your mom is a lucky person to have you for a son. And vice versa.

I miss mine. But I sent her a message anyway.

Buckethead 2.0 "Currently, I'm gathering ingredients for Taco Meatloaf. If I think of it, I will post here."
Tacos, Taco Meatloaf, and now how about Taco Soup. Here are three recipes from 2 of our 3 church cookbooks. The first recipe was in a spiral bound book and hard to align in the scanner. The last recipe was in a snap ring bound book but was continued on the top of the next page, so I had to stitch 2 scans. And I know that much of our northern states are still quite cold yet, even as we approach the middle of May. So, many of you might want to try one of these soup recipes to warm you up.

As a friend from Thailand is visiting tonight it will be Thai Chicken Curry, should be able to snap a photo of the steaming dish.
