The superb fairy wrens are apparently dwindling in numbers, reducing rapidly in the cities and along the coast as development results in destruction habitat. Not so out here where the thick native shrubs in my garden are perfect nesting habitat for them giving them protection from predatory mynas, magpies and currawongs while the surrounding grasslands are excellent feeding grounds. Apart from being very pretty, these birds nest in the garden and don't nest and excrement in my shed like the starlings and sparrows do. These pictures have been taken over the past few weeks.

Spring has sprung

My garden has burst into bud and bloom with the onset of Spring.

A Common Starling rests on branches of my loganberry tree that was completely bare of foliage 2 weeks ago.

Great shots Joe! I know from experience how hard it is to photograph these wrens: they move so quickly!

Those little birds are gorgeous. It always saddens me to hear of species in decline, especially due to lack of suitable habitat.

Hi all. I thought that you might be interested in mushroom fairy rings so here is a photo and informative links.
We now have small orange Chanterelle mushrooms growing around an old stump in our front yard. I was going to finally remove the stump, but it keeps putting out new shoots:

The best known is the edible Scotch bonnet (Marasmius oreades), commonly known as the fairy ring champignon. One of the largest rings ever found is near Belfort in northeastern France. Formed by Infundibulicybe geotropa, it is thought to be about 600 metres (2,000 ft) in diameter and over 700 years old.

We have the odd Jenny Wren in the garden. Can't believe how loud they are for such a small bird!

Correct. The blue is the male and the brown with red lipstick the females.

This is todays effort at our bit of bush at the local sports area that we can walk too. Of course these were on the ground but they still needed a lot of zoom. So although not great pics they are interesting. They are Australian native Noisey Miners, and like the imported indian miners they to are becoming a pest.

Thanks for these piccies Phill. They are pretty common around here too: and they are quite aggressive towards other species.

I was babysitting my 20 month-old grandson the other day at a local park, and he pointed out and named the noisy miners, swamp hens, coots, magpies, wood-ducks, moor hens and crow. (Pa is teaching him well...)
