The Great Photography Thread - REVIVED!

#1

Post by Juno16 »

I wanted to try to start this old thread here.
This thread was a cool place to see photos (other than AP) by the forum members.

Iphone pano from a place that my son and I visited a few weeks ago on a cross country road trip.

Jim, that's a beautiful shot. I also was wondering about the revival of this thread, though I seldom posted on it.

Here is one of three, rather unusual, shots that I recently submitted to a juried art exhibit. I don't know if it has a chance, but the experience of submitting it is worth the effort. I call it "After Christmas Snow" because it is a cluster of snowflakes that I took during our first after Christmas snow, lol. The actual submission has a black mat and is in an 11x14 frame.

I should mention that this is a very low res copy. :)

Where was your picture taken? It reminds me of a part of the rim at the Grand Canyon, but I don't see thousands of people and guard rails.

Hi Rob,

Sorry, I didn’t mention the location. Yes, the South rim of the Grand Canyon. My son just graduated from UC in Santa Barbara and we were doing a road trip back to Mississippi.

I think that it was near Mather Point along the South rim trail.

Tons of people in the parking area and near the visitor center, but really not many at the rim. There were no guard rails at all. If fact, the concrete trail was 10-15 feet from the rim! I was kinda surprised that you could stand right on the edge if you wanted to.
Lots of people were taking selfies standing a couple of feet from the drop off. Not me!

You could walk up to the rim as in the shot below.

I agree - Grand Canyon. And there are many spots there where you can still walk up to the rim. That's one of the reasons we hear about people killing themselves taking selfies with the Canyon behind them - "Let's see one more step back will be perfeeecccttttt". BTW, nice shot. Jim!

I do a lot of garden and flower photography. This is one of my daylilies, Pumpkin Kid, with a dark background to make it stand out dramatically. Daylilies are not as popular in Britain as in North America even though they grow well here, but I have lots of them.

A couple of shots from our outing to NYC last weekend, as well as a couple from the rebuilding of Ground Zero.
We've been staying at the same hotel, (The Millenium Hilton) since the rebuild started.
We have images of the whole complex coming up out of the ground from 7 stories below.
I was actually looking for this thread to post in and it didn't yet exist. I feel like a time traveler... :D
The current view, looking down from the 54th floor

Daylilies at one time were on the list of survival foods but not anymore because of all of the crossbreeding and things that have been done to them.

My wife grows these in pots for the flowers.
She cuts them and feeds them to our leopard tortoise, Molly.
She devours an entire flower in one sitting and she still fits in the palm of my hand, she is two years old.
So although humans may not benefit from the plant animals still do.
Eyeballs, binoculars, sketch box, Scopes n stuff.
Some people don't understand why I love astronomy so much, I cannot understand why they do not!
