Re: The Great Photography Thread - REVIVED!
I just saw this little guy outside my window. I thought it was a cute sequence for your enjoyment. He is an Eastern Rosella, and he visits our bird bath a fair bit, but this was the first time he had his own party, and I had my camera! The piccies are taken through my rather dirty front window, so they are not quite as sharp as I would like, and his colour is a bit subdued (I haven't enhanced anything) but I think they still came out pretty well.
Telescopes: 12" f5 dob, Celestron CPC800, 150mmf5 Celestron achro, Tak TSA102, TV76, ETX125...

Eyepieces: way too many (is that possible?), but I do like my TV 32mm plossl, 13mm Nagler T6, 27mm Panoptic and 3-6mm Nagler zoom, plus Fujiyama 18mm and 25mm orthos and Tak 7.5mm LE

Lovely images Dean.
It has a slight look of a Budgerigar, especially the curved bill and the pattern of the feathers, but I don't know if they are related in any way.

Re: The Great Photography Thread - REVIVED!
They are, like budgies, "parakeets", so they are related but a lot bigger than the budgie, up to twice the length, and they don't congregate in flocks like the budgies. Budgies are found in inland Australia and can be in flocks of many 1000's. (Quite a sight, and very loud(!): but never look up at them with your mouth open! ) They are mainly green in the wild: the colours you see in pet stores are from selective breeding programs.
Rosellas are more solitary, and breed in woodland areas in tree hollows. There are several species, and always amazing colours.

You may recall my "alien fossil" from the local playground (#572). Sadly, my grandson threw it away: but I found a new treasure in the same playground today!
From long, long ago and far, far away: a fossil stormtrooper! Maybe it was the site of an ancient battle!!!

Not my pic, but as a dog lover I think it's pretty cool. Captioned "Waiting for his Burrito".

I don't know how many fellow members are "birders" as well - I have started to lean into birding a lot lately.
Anyway there has been a Snowy Owl in my city most of the winter - a VERY Rare bird for here. I finally got to see it today, this is my favorite photo that I took.

Nice catch Brett! When we lived in condo I used to see Snowy Owl like that flying by at night while I was observing from the patio. At our new home we see owls but of brown variety.KingNothing13 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 21, 2022 11:05 pm I don't know how many fellow members are "birders" as well - I have started to lean into birding a lot lately.

Sophia and I are birders Brett.
If you have a look at my New Forest Life website (link in my signature) you can see some water and song birds we have captured recently.
We have never photographed an owl before though, so well done you for getting one - a rarity too no less

If you know where to look, owls are visible in the day around here, especially in the winter when there are no leaves on trees. A Twitter feed I follow is birds in New York City, and there is always a pic of a Great Horned Owl in central park being posted.
The hard part is figuring out where they like to roost!

Hi all. Here is one of the new blossoms from our Hong Kong Orchid tree. They blossomed early this year, as the tree itself hasn't regrown a all of the green leaf foliage back from the autumn/winter shedding yet. To the right of the blossom are a few new buds which will open soon.

Re: The Great Photography Thread - REVIVED!
Hi all. I took this photo this morning in between the "every 2 hour" rain storms here. So the harvest this spring: to the right is our French curly parsley and to the left is our Italian flat parsley in our side yard. Fresh parsley is a great seasoning for beef, poultry, fish, lamb, pork and soups. I just wish I could get rid of the constant downpour of the oak tree old leaves from our front yard.

Re: The Great Photography Thread - REVIVED!
You can't beat fresh herbs Marshall. Much better than the dried ones from the food stores.
Dropped Oak leaves... you should live in a Forest like us Come Autumn time they are absolutely everywhere around us.
We don't mind though. Walking ankle deep in them and savouring the gorgeous smell as they are disturbed is just beautiful. Especially when they are wet.
We have a gardener who comes in every couple of weeks who cleans them up for us from our garden, so I can understand the frustration when you have to do it yourself
