Here is our first Orchid blossom of the year.

I now have one of the White Ibis birds eating from my hand.

I couldn't get the actual taking of the bread because they move so fast. Boy, Mother Nature sure is a fun gal. However, Lady Luck hasn't been very kind to me with the lottery tickets lately.

I sometimes paddle out to this island (dark site) to get a good view of the eastern skies.

This is just a cellphone image - the island is about 250 metres off the beach.

Looking north to Black Island in the distance. Around that big point, it opens up to the North Basin, and you have ~200 km of wide open lake, emptying eventually into Hudson Bay.

Thank you Jim. If you look at the rock, you can see glacial scouring - roughly North/South, from the recession of the last big glaciers in this area.

Also some back story to the canoe. Its a Grumman, my Dad gave it to me in 2014 but its been in our family since the mid 1960's... its seen a lot of fast rivers and some remote lakes. I always get a flood of memories when I push it into the water each spring.

At this time of year my prework ritual involves a coffee by my (almost) nature pond feeding the fish and checking out whats about to blossom. Today was just beautiful, the water clear

and the yellow iris' just about to burst into flower.

Hello !
Here comes the flowers season ; in our "garden", we have from times to times some orchids :
The most beautiful is "Ophrys apifera", in French "ophrys abeille" in English "bee orchid", because it mimics bees to attract male bees to scatter their pollen.

The other one is "Himantoglossum hircinum", in French "orchis bouc" (it smells like "bouc", which is the male goat), in English "lizard orchid" :

Some birds in and above my backyard this week. Gets a bit noisey living next to a small regional airport. It has the "HARS" Historical Aircraft Restoration Society. It also has John Travolta's 707 Jet.

As sun and warm weather comes again, I see a snake along the house : a "colonelle lisse" (french name, I don't know the english one) aka "Coronella austriaca", which is a non-venomous snake, 50-70 cm long !
