I was down at the local lake with my grandson the other day. A Wood-duck pair was showing off their brood: I counted 24 ducklings! And I thought one child at a time was bad enough.

In the piccie you can see Dad chasing off another duck at the left, while Mum is keeping an eye on the youngsters.

Although not looking its most pristine, this little pink beauty was very kindly donated to us by a visiting bird in our garden a couple of years ago.

We never planted it, so we assume that is how it got here.

Ibises are often called "bin chickens" here in Australia due to their love of raiding the garbage bins in parks etc...

Dean, I'm not surprised that you sent that link. I understand you have some impressive trees down under. A professor at Humboldt State here in Arcata, Steve Sillett, researches the forest canopies of tall trees, and he visited the Hume Plateau a while ago. Some of his exploits are described in The Wild Trees--a fun read.
