There is a nature park on the edge of the city in Canberra called Black Mountain. The mountain rises about 300m ~1000ft above the city. Black mountain has more species of wild orchids in this one small area than exist in all of Great Britain. That said,I was spectacularly unsuccessful when I went looking for orchids on Monday. I thought they would be out in force following recent late winter rains. Probably too cold and I'll try again if it rains again in a few weeks. I did capture some other wild flowers and one species of wild orchid.

Enjoy....

I was heading north this morning, and around this time of year here the Canada geese obviously fly south, though they seem to go west for a bit when it's early in the season. Still, I never expected to get a Big Dipper formation  Even geese can be asterisms; just look up ;)

My skies have been so bad of late, I'm now reduced to this:
Image1.jpg

I was in Bolton, Ontario today when this morning at about 10AM when the temperature took a sudden drop. I took this facing north; a literal mess of cloud in amongst some well defined clouds to the left and right. Once it rolled in above me, it poured for about 20 minutes and the insane winds afterwards downed some power lines as well. Most of the storms here roll in from the south or west; this was one of only a few times I've seen one coming in from the north.

An hour later, it was back to clear skies.
This year...

Spring is the most important thing, Rope is thicker but Spring is quicker! :D

Taken during recent rains. Advantages of having a weatherproofed DSLR.
The only reason I went out was to take some fresh images on my camera card for a beginners Adobe Lightroom workshop that evening. I wanted to use it to demo the camera download process. So I went out into the grounds of my apartment building to grab a few snaps. I was really pleased with the results.

Pentax K5 ISO400. Tamron 90mm SP f2.8 Di. 1/125s - 1/250s f5.6 Handheld with image stabilisation.

Thought I would share this.

I have lived in quite a few different environments. Desert (both high desert and low desert) Mountains, and valleys, city and country. Right now we live in a retirement community in central Arizona, lots of open area around us, including a golf course which attracts wild life. Plus we have some new species that we had never seen (Javelina). So I purchased a 'game camera' to see what I could capture. So far your typical stuff, Quail, Doves, Cardinals, skunks etc etc, but the fun part had been the Javelina 'squadrons' that come through along with the bobcats and a fox. But earlier this week this guy showed up and surprised us. Others have seen female out on the golf course but no males, so this was quite a treat.

We haven't had a hawk visit the yard since late Winter/early Spring. There have been many sightings of one or two circling overhead since then, but no landings. This morning, this one was sitting out on the playscape. Maybe it's not happy we took the swings away for the season?

During our recent anniversary my wife and I revisited our honeymoon location at the south rim of the Grand Canyon, plus 40 years, and recreated a photo taken back then.

Weather a bit more hospitable this time:

Super nice and a big congratulations! Wow 40 years. My wife and I are on 38.

My son and I visited the south rim last June when traveling from Santa Barbara to the Mississippi coast. Absolutely amazing!
