Re: Weather
It was pretty steamy last night trying to sleep, even with our fans running all night.
Temperatures today, and into the early hours of tomorrow, are expected to be about the same again.
However, from Wednesday onwards, they are expected to start falling. At least into the 23℃ to 25℃ range, which is a bit more tolerable, and gradually lessen a bit more as the week goes on.

Those nights in a heatwave when it doesn't cool down are pretty horrible. Hang in there. The good news is that when global warmingButterfly Maiden wrote: ↑Tue Jul 19, 2022 7:52 am It was pretty steamy last night trying to sleep, even with our fans running all night.

collapses the Antarctic Ice sheet, the AMOC will be permanently disrupted and you won't ever have to complain about the heat again.

Re: Weather
We have just had a very quick, and light, shower which has brought the temperature down by a degree or two.
I have just seen from the local weather report that some slightly cooler weather is coming our way from tomorrow
It looks like we have survived the extremes of this heatwave, whilst other parts of the UK took the full brunt of it.

Re: Weather
Years ago, I was enjoying an intense lightning storm front as it approached. My wife said "I'm always worried it could hit the house", to which I replied, "naaah, we have a cell tower about 500yds away, lightning would hit that first". 10 minutes later... BOOM!! Sound of tinkling glass mixed with screams.
Lightning did hit the cell tower, and a smaller part of the bolt also came over and hit our eavestrough. Smoke was coming out the wall where the security system door switch *used to* be. Pieces of the doorbell button were later found on the street, some 50yds away. Not a lot of lasting damage.
Moral of my story... "Listen to Mrs, she is always right"

As you may already know, I'm a little scared of electrical storms, so needless to say I wouldn't have been trying to get a photograph of one (not outside anyway).
I would have to be safely protected somewhere indoors
Anyway, great photo from the Chronicle.

Armpit high grass isn't really a problem, provided it is that height only while you are laying on the lawn.

My lawn is arm pit high grass field, and I'm nowhere near fit enough to do anything about it.

Re: Weather
Weather here is a bit strange this week with the heat wave.
Monday seemed to have a horrific forecast on Wednesday
Luckily Poprad did not burst into flames and the temperature only reached 33°C
On Tuesday you were treated to a interesting sight.

Mostly cloudy last night. Clear about 0330 this morning, so I grabbed my ST80. Had about ten minutes of viewing the Pleiades before the clouds rolled in. Went back to bed. Completely clear now, but the wildfire smoke map shows we're under the muck again.

Re: Weather
It has not rained here for a while now and a hosepipe ban is currently in place.
The grassy areas all around the Forest are getting baked and turning brown.
As a consequence, there is a heightened fire risk. Disposable BBQs are banned in the New Forest and 'High Fire Risk' signs are everywhere.
I don't often pray for rain but it is essential we get some soon.
Temperature is currently 23℃ (73.4℉).
Looking at the BBC weatherapp for the coming week the temperatures are going to be rising to around the 30℃ (86℉) range, with no rain in sight.
