Yep. 15 m/s was the limit for strong wind warning. When either of us heard that in the radio (in summer), the next thingpakarinen wrote: ↑Sat Mar 26, 2022 2:13 pmturboscrew wrote: ↑Sat Mar 26, 2022 12:46 pm With a friend of mine (couple of decades back), we used to not go sailing unless it was at least 15 m/s.
Being slightly more stupid then than now, I went sailing on a friend's boat a few decades ago when there were small craft warnings up. That was quite the adrenaline rush. We weren't sure we were going to make it back to harbor.
But that was on a relatively small bay of Lake Michigan, so we weren't terribly far from shore even if we did capsize and his boat was small enough to right it easily (which we had to do once when his girlfriend didn't uncleat the jib sheet when we came about ).
was to call the other asking "sailing?". He had a 5.5-meter "fat" boat.
Actually, exactly this (Tyvex 18). Did you do a lee-side tack? (Don't know what that's called in English.)
We had to, to get the water in over the side.
Oh, and it's no place to be with a smaller motor boat.
