Waking up at 13°C is awkward.
Here, heat pumps are mostly for warming. Cooling is considered secondary (or reverse) function.
The humidity here during the hot part of summer is very low between 20-50%. I have ducted evaporative cooling through the whole house that works very well in this climate and costs a small fraction to run compared to using the reverse cycle in air conditioning mode. So I almost never use the air con. I only give it a short 10 minute run every couple of weeks to keep things moving. Same thing in winter. On very cold mornings, I'll run it for 20 mins. That warms the large living area very quickly, then the sun takes over as the morning progresses.

I used to do a lot of ski touring, camping on the snow. 13C isn't too awkward compared to -10C

Well a cold front has hit today, only 96 forecast here, with a small chance of rain, maybe it will knock some of this Saharan sand out of the area, has been a haze in the air for months. Rest of the 15 day forecast ranges from 100 to 106, beats the 109 last Saturday and Sunday.
I’ve learned a lot since I knew it all.

Cool and rainy here, which is bad. I'd really like to put the dog out, for a while, instead of having to walk her, in my current condition.

It hit 101F yesterday, probably a repeat is in store for today.

Usually you get thunder storms later to cool this off, it remained clear, and got out for some binocular observing.
It was too hot for mosquitoes I guess, none to be found.

This is getting heavy. It's been around +30°C (86°F) since the midsummer eve. At the moment it's +32°C (90°F).

Yeah, really. We've had almost a two-week stretch of clear skies with just a couple of short rain / cloud interruptions. I'm becoming highly suspicious...

It's warm enough here today for this poor guy to seek a nap refuge on the cold(er) ground. Yes, he is alive and well, just warm. Some rabbits would interrupt him now and then, but after they hopped away he would go right back to his cooling mode meditation. Such drama outside my window.

Well, I've really done it this time.........I've clouded out the entire eastern seaboard of the continent.

My 4 day astrophotography workshop was scheduled for then cancelled in February 2020 by huge fires and thick smoke.
The rescheduled workshop in May 2020 was cancelled by COVID.
We were all set to run in June 2021.....bad weather.
Rescheduled to July 2021, NSW went into COVID outbreak lockdown....for 100 days.

May 27-30 2022, weather clear, one person dropped out 7 days before the workshop dropping the enrolment below minimum. Postponed to June 3-6. June 3-6 Enrolment back up, weather cloudy. Postponed to June 24-27.
June 24-27 Enrolment even higher, weather - cloudy.

July 1-4 Enrolment still high, weather forecast clear all weekend, YES!! I will not be deterred....until yesterday when a double winter cyclone formed clouding out the entire eastern seaboard for this weekend. Although forming off the Queensland coast more than 1000km away, the system is pushing heavy rain and cloud right down Eastern Australia.
https://www.news.com.au/national/queens ... 3aed1bd963

I have now cancelled the workshop completely and have no plans to offer it again.

Today is the start of a heatwave in the UK, with temperatures soaring to 25℃ (77℉) at the moment.

It is sunny and dry but far too hot to stay outside for too long.

We are just relaxing at home, indoors, where it is much cooler. Only venturing out into the garden now and again ;)

The recent deluge in Sydney saw more rain fall in 4 days than London typically gets in one year.
weather.jpg
The Richmond and Hawkesbury rivers flow through some deep canyons in places. This causes the water to back up and rise quickly in some parts of the city. So the flooding is terrible as you are possibly seeing on your news services.

Fortunately I don't live anywhere near Sydney. Having worked 36 years in Climate Change research, although I didn't work on future prediction, the increase in extremes of weather, floods, storms, droughts and fire was common knowledge when I began in the field in the mid 1980's. It was a source of never ending frustration to us, that the population at large, big business boards, and politicians, devoted so much energy to trying to debunk the science.

When I purchased this retirement property, I looked at various properties ability to withstand or not be subject to fire or flood. Some were excellent astronomical sites but I wouldn't go near them. My property is a rural residential block 3/4 acres, big enough to do everything I want, small enough to be easy to maintain into older age. The farms around me are well maintained and there has never been a fire in this district even during the horror fire years. My land is 40m above the flood plain. Would need a biblical flood to wash me out. The highway is on the flood plain. The bridge over the creek into the village does go under water occasionally as does the highway between here and the closest town.

There is a small catchment on the hill above my property but not enough to generate a downhill flash flood. But if need be, there is an unsealed ridge road in the hills behind me that bypasses all the flood points and takes you down to the town. I always keep the pantry well stocked with non-perishables and I usually have fresh vegetables in the garden. I have two large fridges and only shop once every 3 weeks anyway so I have never felt the need to use the ridge road during periods when we've been cut off via the highway. The water never stays high more than 4-5 days and I can easily last through with what's on the property at any one time.

I have to admit, I am feeling pretty smug now.

Awful, I know.
