We are still having a lot of rain and dull grey skies. No flooding right here but the lower mainland and fraser valley and southern interior have been hit hard. More is on the way apparantly.

Last week after the first round of flooding most rail and major highways to the rest of Canada were cut. Hundreds of people stranded in vehicles.

News report and pics from the first round.

We are bracing ourselves for another storm due to hit the UK on Tuesday - Storm Barra.

Unlike Storm Arwen, which mainly affected the north of the UK when we just received the edge of it in the New Forest, Storm Barra is destined to hit us full force.

'Yellow' weather warnings are in place for us for strong winds, expected to gust up to 60 mph, and heavy rain.

Unfortunately, Sophia has to travel to work on Tuesday so I am really worried about her. She works in Southampton and she has to drive through a lot of the Forest roads before she gets onto the main Southampton road.

Bus and train services are also expected to be affected, so Sophia will be driving our car to work.

I have asked her to see if she can get the day off but she doesn't think that will be possible, but she will try.

As you know, I work from home so I can keep safe, so I will be keeping my phone beside me at all times tomorrow, especially until I know she has arrived safely. It is about a 40-minute journey by car.

Then I just have to worry about her return journey later on Tuesday afternoon. I will be a nervous wreck by the end of the day :sigh:

Well, I don't think it's amok between falling trees. Odds for serious incidents is not very high. Odds for irritating incidents is probably much higher. At least restrict your worries to the times of travel.

I have just received a text from Sophia about her work tomorrow.

Her employer is allowing her to work from home instead of going into the office :D

Phew! That is a relief.

Cloudy and the wind is howling now. Supposed to drop to +9* F overnight. But it might clear, so maybe I can catch Leonard - briefly!

It's headed our way. I was just out in my sweats and a t-shirt moving the trash cans. Very mild cloudy and windy. Snow showers by tomorrow night.

Storm Barra is really hitting us hard now.

Winds currently gusting around 50mph, torrential rain and just now mixed with hailstone

I am really glad that Sophia didn't have to travel today.

The winds are expected to gradually increase to around 60mph as the day goes on, then continue into tomorrow.

Thankfully we don't have to go out anywhere, so we are hunkering down and hoping for no property damage.

Expecting the first snow overnight. We've started referring to snowfalls of less than an inch as "conversational snow." Enough to mention to a friend at the morning coffee break but not worth getting a shovel out for.
