What Was Your Favorite Childhood Breakfast Cereal, And Play Game?

#1

Post by Refractordude »

My favorite breakfast cereal was Kellogg's Corn Pops. When the corn pops were all eaten, I would drink the leftover sweet milk. My favorite game was musical chairs.

As a kid: 2 eggs, sunny side up, 2 rashers of bacon, oatmeal with raisins. I've always been a hot breakfast fan.

Later I discovered Huevos Rancheros and Eggs Benedict.

As an adult: a traditional Japanese breakfast (if I can find a restaurant like in LA or Vancouver): rice, natto, nori, miso soup, a bit of grilled fish, the mirin flavored omelette cake, and four more vegetable side dishes. Sometimes in Kyoto I would just have breakfast and later in the day would fill in with tea and snacks. It's a very satisfying breakfast. I'm not going to go to all the bother just for myself though.

These days it's still 2 eggs and turkey breakfast sausage or lox or a lox omelette, and oatmeal with blueberries and yogurt.

Really. Seems more appropriate now than ever (well, except for all the sugar).

Back when I was a kid the cereal was secondary , what was important was the toy that was in the box !! Anyone remember digging to the bottom of those cereal boxes ?

Ah, yes the toy!!
You would think they would still put something in there for us, like maybe an EP or at least a cheap moon filter 😂

I agree with nFA regarding eggs. I love eggs in almost all forms, though not big into poached.

As for cereal, my favorite was a long gone one called Quisp. And Capn' Crunch. Later it was Raisin Bran.

And once, I snuck chocolate cake. My father made sure I ate the whole giant piece.

My favorite game we invented. It was called "Run Around The House". It was dodgeball....around the house. Whoever got nailed with it, became "It".

I didn't get to have stuff like Fruit Loops... sugary cereals were all banned. The closest I ever got was good old Corn Flakes. I grew very fond of 100% Bran. Yeah, I know... I had a depri(a)ved childhood.

For games it was Tarzan for a while. We had a gigantic rock in the woods and there was a nearby vine. Until one day when not did the just vine break, but so my collarbone. After that is was Army - we build a fort out of old boards in the woods. Many a happy hour in and around it and the small stream that ran by the house.

Hello Refractordude. When I was young, I loved the Sugar Corn Pops. They were a sponsor on the Wild Bill Hickok TV show with Guy Madison. I could eat them right out of the box (Sugar Pops Are Tops). Later, I blended Cheerios, Corn Flakes, and Wheaties. A three grain breakfast cereal. And finally, I wanted a hot breakfast, so I now have a hard fried egg on top of a buttered toast, hash brown potatoes, country ham, and a glass of Clamato juice. Although the scientists and dieticians say that there is no chemical difference, I prefer the brown eggs, as I think that they have a better flavor and you see these used on most of the cooking shows. A friend of mine years ago here had an aviary (bird farm with chickens, geese, turkeys, and ducks). I loved the Indian Runner duck eggs that I used to get fresh from him. They are about 30% larger then a hen egg, have a celery green shell, and a red yoke. Boy I miss those, as these were great, and made fantastic cakes, cookies, and waffles too. I also used to use Tabasco sauce on scrambled eggs, but I have had to cut down on the "hot stuff" in the last couple of years. Thanks for another fun thread Refractordude, and the best of regards.

Oh yes! Seasoning the eggs! When younger it was black pepper. Now eggs get Cholula Lime. Omelette gets Cholula Original or Valentina except for lox omelette which gets black pepper, garlic and dill. Occasionally I’ll go with soy sauce on the eggs. Just a drop centered on the yolk.

I remember buying these 6" Army figurines that had a loop on the back, with a similar parachute attached. I loved those things.

I also liked french toast with a sprinkle of sugar, cinnamon, and Log Cabin syrup. Did anyone enjoy waffles with peanut butter? A real favorite with syrup. Both with Park sausages, which had a great commercial.
This is the audio of the commercial.
