ASI183MC Pro Canon adapter

#1

Post by bigfish »

Hello Everyone,

I'm super confused again.
I want to get a Canon lens for my 183. The manual says I need an EOS-T2 adapter. Well, the only one of those I see on the website is suitable for all 12.5 mm back-focus or 17.5 mm back-focus ASI cameras. My 183 has a back-focus Distance of 6.5 mm. I don't even know what back-focus really is but I know those numbers are not the same. The other Canon adapter for the ASI1600 is for a back-focus of 6.5 mm but doesn't say it will work on the 183. Help! What Canon adapter will work on this Camera?

I do not have a Lens yet, my local camera store has a lot of used lenses. I saw a nice 50mm for $30. I don't need fancy I just want to play with my camera inside the house.

yeah i'll dig deeper, a few retailers are listing the 183mc as 17.5mm back focus with the eos t2 adapter , but the manual says 6.5mm , the asi 1600 is 6.5mm and the 183 physical form looks very identical to that camera

copied from the faq on the product, i katherine and sam over at zwo do the faq/tech support.

chudinov.k – February 3, 2020:

I don’t understand. In description is written `ASI1600`, but this camera has backfocus 6.5mm, not 17.5 or 12.5mm! And what about 071pro? Is this ring OK for it?

Katherine Tsai – February 5, 2020:

You can add a 11mm T2 ring to ASI1600, then you will get 17.5mm back focus.
It is OK.

ok the product is designed for cameras that have 17.5 mm back focus,

example asi2600 has a back focus of 17.5mm https://astronomy-imaging-camera.com/wp ... kfocus.jpg

the eos t2 comes with a 5mm extension adapter to support the cameras with 5mm back focus that come with the short m42 mm female adapter of 7.5mm . 5+7.5+5 = 17.5 mm ( typical i think this is the planetary camera range.)

most of the cameras should be 6.5mm back focus or 17.5mm back focus

your camera is 6.5 mm and it should of come with a 11mm thick 42 mm female adapter + the eos t 2 comes with the 5mm extension to support these cameras

your camera would only need the 11 mm adapter that came with it . 6.5mm back focus + 11mm m42 adapter = 17.5

the description is confusing and they should base all the products with one reference of back focus, just the camera without the m42 ring.

do you have a link? is this the filter wheel version ? this should work if you choose to use a filter wheel, you can always add adapters if you would like to use it as is and add a filter wheel later on.

btw what lense canon lense range do you plan to use ?

I asked about this adapter last night and they responded already! Now I need to figure out what an EF lens is. 🤷🏼‍♂️

ok my understanding is the ef lenses are the original design for full frame and aps-c size cameras , and the ef-s is for only aps-c camera designs aka cropped imaging . as the aps-c camera sensor is smaller which doesn't need more expensive element to create a bigger imaging circle .

The mounting fixture might be different between the two to avoid any mix matching .

I think you should be alright if you only look for ef model camera lenses . i'm pretty sure you should be able to focus manually with a lens that uses auto focus, that's another thing that might need to be clarified maybe as well.
