Show Us Your Capture Setup

So, where do you capture your images? I sit in the garage, the length of a USB away from the telescope. I've got an old pc and mismatched monitors, a 12V bench supply and my astro observing chair.

There's not enough shelving and it's cold in the winter but it seems to work! I wondered what other people's setups are like?

I set up every night in my backyard, placing my laptop inside of a container to keep out dew, and I use TeamViewer to control everything from inside the house. It is pretty handy, especially with automatic focusing and good cable management :)

I haven't tried Teamviewer. I had a go at Remote Desktop on Bryan's advice but was then limited to a single screen laptop (although warmer!) My long term plan is to use the Ethernet system Steve333 uses but I have to sort out the front room for that and it would mean decorating diy jobs! My current system is more plesent in the summer months!

Hi,

I have recently started remotely operating my telescope from the home office (nice and warm :D ).

The telescope (CPC 800), cameras and focuser are connected to a laptop that connects to the home WiFi. I use Microsoft Remote Desktop to connect the laptop to the office desktop. The laptop runs CPWI, SharpCap and Firecapture. The desktop runs AstroPlanner and Cartes du Ciel both of which control the scope through a remote ASCOM connection (takes the strain off the remote laptop). I also have SkySafari on a tablet for extra information and general exploration.

I really enjoyed building the system over several months. This allowed me to learn and test each component. I have managed to operate the full system for 5 nights so far (weather is dodgy).

Next, I would like to do the TSS Messier challenge, image a quasar (just for the, that photon took...) and explore the moon (Virtual Moon Atlas to help).

Clear skies.

Nice setup Xio. The three screen system is a good look!

I'm usually running CPWI, APT, PHD2 and Stellarium on two screens. (I say usually, the SCT went back to the menders shortly after setting up the guide scope so I've only been at full throttle a couple of times!)

Sorry to read about your SCT. My CPC-800 has had a couple of boards replaced over the years. It is not fun waiting for the fix.
Saying that, my scope is 11 years old and it has served me very well over that period.

I hope the scope is back with you soon.

I tried Remote Desktop at first because I did not think TeamViewer was free, but I was wrong! Remote Desktop was just too difficult for me to get working right. I got it working for the first week or so, but then it stopped working out of nowhere... TeamViewer was a lot smoother and easier to use for me.

I set up in my driveway. I've got heavy duty duct tape marking where the tripod legs go. Recently I discovered that I could set my small folding table really close to the tripod without the scope hitting the laptop. The laptop is in a "Rubbermaid" tub through which I drilled holes for the power and USB ports. The laptop screen faces the family room door, so to check it's progress I have to get up off the sofa and walk all of 10 feet to see the screen. Next to remote control this is a sweet set up. If we get a clear night soon I'll try and get some pics.

I sit in my very untidy shed with a laptop out at the scope running team view.

It's very nice to be in the warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Although I have things automated now to nearly the point I just push 'go' and sit back and watch :)

Always outside. I'm either staring at the back of the camera that's on whatever scope I'm using at the time for the Moon or planets, usually with the aid of a magnifying glass...

Or looking at the "clock face" if I'm trying for some DSO's.

Nothing I have is motorized, therefore I have no choice :D

Nah, it's only about 20 feet from the door. I look for two things: a red flashing when PHD has lost tracking and the Nebulosity pop up that disappears after all the images are taken. But a pair of binos might be a great idea - then I could read the display.

Heh I had to turn the sound off on my 'imaging' laptop which sits out near the scope. One morning I went out to cover things up and the laptop was sitting there doing the ~ Ding, Ding, Ding, Ding ~ sound due to a lost star. It had probably been doing that for hours driving the neighbors insane!
