Which Luminance Filter should I get with my Astronomik setup?

Post by TheButcher »

Hey all,

Almost donemy new Mono setup and was wondering what I should use for Luminance.

Here is my setup

Scope: Skywatcher Equinox Ed80 Doublet F6.25, 500mm fl
ZWO 1600mm-pro
ZWO 8 pos filter wheel
Astronomik1.25" Deep Sky Red Green and Blue.
Astronomik 1.25" 6nm Ha, O III & S II
Hotech Field Flatner

Bortle 7 Red Zone

Now I want everything parafocal so the brand would be Astronomik.

Here are my options pretty much. The L2 filter is said to be like the regular Luminance Filter that comes with the LRGB fro Astronomik and good for refractors that have a FF, the L-3 they said are a good match with the Deep Sky R,G,B ones and reduces blueish halos with and ideal for refractors with less then ideal color correction.

Astronomik CLS CCD Light Pollution Filter - 1.25"
Astronomik L-2 UV-IR Blocking Filter - 1.25" Round Mounted
Astronomik L-3 UV-IR Blocking Filter - 1.25" Round Mounted

Thanks :)

Forget the word parfocal, you'll be focusing for every filter parfocal really basicly means in a similar proximity. I don't know why companies advertise this... Now one reason to go all the same brand for this "parfocal" is for off axis guiding as the split mirror is infront of the filter and having a large differential between the filters can throw out the aog focus position to much, other then that, parfocal isn't really needed.

I don't know much about the filters, I'll have to dig up their spec sheets.

On your APO and Dob it does not matter, and the L2 may be a very good choice.
On your ED, a harder cut of blue violet through the L3 may remove the blue halos around the stars from the CA residual.
The CLS will eat some more blue stars, and pass more red and orange stars in the luminance. The color contrast in the star fields will increase, eventually too much.
