SVBONY 305 PRO for DSO?

#1

Post by cumbrianwolf »

I read another post on here from 2020, and it was never concluded. SVBONY state it as a planetary only camera, albeit having a chipset that other manufacturers use for their DSO imaging cameras.
The reason I am asking is to check out people's experiences with the SVBONY 305 or equivalent model, as I believe they have the same sensors. I do not mind spending on a new guide camera if this 305 does well with basic imaging, so I am trying to come to the conclusion of either taking a punt on it or keep it as a just the guide camera and upgrade to a good cooled unit as the DSLR route is not ideal, what with having to do all the darks, flats, lights, noise, amp glow and batteries dying out so quickly in the cold.

For the money you can get a zwo camera which is a tried-and-true performer. You don't need to ask anybody how well it performs. You can go on to astrobin and do a search for that zwo camera as a guide camera and you'll see a lot of pictures.
