Added a mini-pc to my rig.

Post by starfield »

So in an effort to simplify my setup, I decided to try and add a mini PC to my rig. I went ahead and added a BeeLink mini PC to a longer plate. You'll see it tucked right under the plate up front. It's currently attached with some velcro and some Zip ties which I thought was temporary, but after using it I'm starting to like it as it makes it easier to remove if I need to pack the scope up for a road trip.

Since the MiniPC runs WIndows 10 Pro, the software set is identical so I haven't had to learn anything new aside from setting up a range extender so I can get solid 5ghz wifi in the backyard. What I'm really starting to like about the configuration is that it makes setup and take down much easier. Drop the scope on the mount and the 2 cables. Connect the power to my PB advanced and I'm good to go. Don't have to bother setting up a table for the laptop and don't have to leave the laptop outside either. The cable management is easier too. There's just one cable to worry about, that's the power cable.

Happy with the set up so far. Even with the extra gear, the mount is guiding just fine. So far, so good.

Looks great! You're absolutely right, it makes it much easier to set up. I use a Pi with a USB hub and a 12 to 5 V converter but it's the same idea. I hope that your Bee works better than the one I got, I returned it. That was not for AP by the way.

A mini PC is the way to go!
Now you need to make something like this so you can just wheel it in and out!

That's nice! Given the weight of my EQ6R that is likely in my future.

Thanks. My son made it for me but I'm sure you could find a shop to make one.
Let me know if you want any dimensions or a list of material.
