Suggestions for imaging DSOs

Post by astrographymc »

I have a 5" APO Triplet (952mm focal length) and a WO Redcat. My mount has 30 lbs payload. Now, I have these options -

1. A 6" RC for higher focal length and fainter objects. But will that be a good option? Does the resolution , light gathering capability, and as a result , detailing on faint objects change or just the focal length increase and so the change of FOV from the 5 " APO I already have ? Can a 6" RC hold collimation well ?

2. A refractor within range 70-80 mm for the change of FOV. But as I already have a Redcat 51, so is it worth buying ?

3. There is another option of Imaging Newtonian also. But i have heard that a newtonian cannot hold collimation well. So i am not sure about that.

these are for solely imaging..not for any kind of visual. I have a dedicated OSC and a mirrorless camera. please advise.

I have a 6" RC (by TPO). It's not used for fainter objects because that can be made up for with more exposure time using any size objective, but what it does gain you, because of the bigger aperture, is greater resolution. So for smaller targets it's an excellent tool in your arsenal of OTAs. And at less than 12.5 lbs it should work well on your mount.
