Explorer Scientific ED127

Hello all
I have an ES 127 Carbon fiber enroute to me. Is anyone using this scope? Quick question I have to hopefully save me some time. How many spacers are you using to obtain your back focus on the focuser. Not from the Flattener to the censor, but on the focuser itself? My 152 was darn near 4", I sure hope it's not the same with this. This is only a temporary thing till I get the new flange adapter for my WR30 to attach.

Thanks,
Mark

I'm not using mine much but IIRC it's 3 for a mirrorless DSLR, so for an astro camera you need at least that many. One was to make the focuser work better. There has been a lot of criticism on the ED127CF focuser that I'm not sure is justified. Mine was not tight but wen I opened it up and adjusted the various screws it tightened up quite a bit. There are also some on the OTA side of the focuser. By adding one more extender I got significant added stability because it would allow the focuser tube to protrude further back into the OTA underneath one of the setting screws there. Without it, those screws would have no effect and instability would result. So by tuning the existing focuser you can make it work well for AP. Altogether it became pretty long, too long and heavy for my AVX so I had more success with the much faster MN152. You have a better mount so that won't be a problem for you. I should start using mine again on the Losmandy that I got since then when I'm done with getting the 12" Newt working on it. Enjoy your new scope!

Apples to oranges, but I use two 1 1/2” extensions on my ES ED102 from the focuser to the flattener

Looks like i'll be playing around a bit. Anyway Just got word that my flange adapter from moonlite is on it's way, Soon as it's here i'll be pulling the focuser off and replacing it with my Nitecrawler.
