Best astro camera for SCT around 1800mm ?

#1

Post by Cliff »

Hi all,

Currently using a old Meade 6"ACF SCT and a ZWO533MC camera and getting quite reasonable results. Mainly Galaxies and Clusters.

Plate solving shows I have a F/L of around 1800mm probably due to the long imaging train with moonlight focuser.

Going by the Astronomy Tools (https://astronomy.tools/calculators/ccd_suitability) it is quite oversampled , the only camera at the moment that seems to have large pixels apart from CCD ones is the QHY294 or ZWO 294.
Even then not a perfect match.

I thought I could use the Meade 0.63 reducer but it is not suitable for ACF scopes .

Software binning shows it is better through the calculator though loose detail in practice.

Appreciate any ideas
Cliff

Astronomy tools is good. The Bintel one is good too. (https://www.bintel.com.au/tools/astrono ... 2b26af01d5)

The first camera I put on the end of my 9.25 (2350mm) was a GPCAM290 which was hopelessly oversampled! The Bintel calculator suggested the ASI294 with it's 4.63µm pixels would be a better fit.

Regards

Graeme
