Is there a Corrector for the C11? (Not the 6.3 Reducer/corrector)

#1

Post by TheButcher »

Hey all,

I was wondering if there is a plain "corrector" for the Celestron C-11 XLT to make the field flat? I know they have the 6.3 reducer/corrector which I bought before, but I don't want to reduce it. I want to be able to image at the native F10. I will be imaging with my 1600mm-P and it has 1.25" filters in the ZWO EFW 8 Pos.'

Also if there is anything at a reasonable price, that would be preferred.

Thx All :)

I'm still searching and thought I saw one for $400 but forgot the page and that would be way to much.

I called up Scopestuff and they said, if you know of one let him know too. He also mentioned if you find any SCT one, that should probably work. Starizona I got voicemail. I got home too late this week. But I'm thinking from them they would charge like 300-400, I might as well as sell my C-11 and go for an edge for that money. I was also thinking about the Meade LX 200 12" How is yours Rob?

Starizona was selling the Night Owl .4x reducer/corrector for all non-Edge Celestron SCTs but they stopped and have been working on a better version to come out in 2021 for $279. Be aware that this new version and the version for the EdgeHD SCTs have been delayed for over a year as they have had issues with vignetting. A friend of mine had a prototype of the Night Owl for the EdgeHD which she tried on her C14" EdgeHD and it was ok but still produced a lot of vignetting. She gave it to me to try on my C11" EdgeHD but I have not had time to try it. So, hopefully they will eventually come out with a better option.

Here are the specs for the upcoming Night Owl that dean sent me:

Specifications
- Focal Reduction Factor: 0.4x
- Maximum Sensor Size: 16mm diagonal
- Optics: 4 elements, fully multi-coated
- Filter Threads: M48 (2" filter)
- Camera Threads: M42 (T-threads)
- Backfocus: 38.5mm
- Diameter: 2"
- Overall Length: 1.8"
- Weight: 0.5 lbs.

So, if your camera exceeds the 16mm diagonal illuminated circle you will need to crop. In this case, the hyperstar seems a much better option which I had a number of years and really liked it.

Thanks Bruce,

That would be interesting to get it down to .4x and may consider it in the future. But right now I am looking for something that keeps it at or around F10 and produces an image without/very little coma.

I have a feeling I may have to upgrade to an 11" Edge or Mead LX200 12".

That is what I am doing. That is, using my Edge at f/10. I removed the .7x reducer as it is not perfect. At f/10, assuming you have decent skies, the Edge scope is excellent.
