I must have jinxed it. The secondary had separated during transport and was freely banging away at the primary mirror.

I left a message at Agena's online support site. Such beautiful equipment, what a shame.

Oh man! I'm so sorry to hear this. Reading through the post I see you've been waiting for months now and then to have this happen on delivery, just stinks. Hopefully, customer support will handle this quickly and appropriately.

Thanks Greg. Yea the secondary mirror had sheared straight off the secondary screws in the stalk. These screws are admittedly on the small side especially when people don't read the "Handle with care" signs. I can imagine how this happens once somebody drops the box on the ground.

Agena offered to replace it with a new one. I suggested to them that it is easier for me to drive down to Cerritos than the hassle for me to wrap the scope and send it back. They took me up on that and replied that I can do a curbside pickup. So I'll drive down Monday morning.

I cringed at the sight of that broken secondary mirror, Henk.

Congratulations in any case and glad you'll be up and running on Monday.

Is mounting the OTA a one-man job?

It is traumatizing! To me it feels almost as if a loved one has died. Hmm maybe I need to go out more...

It will have to be! Haha. I have been pretty creative in finding ways to carry my Z12 around. For that I used a sling made from my judo belt wrapped around the Alt bearings. Simple things like that can make a big difference. I can see myself making a tool to help with this.

The replacement has arrived safely this time. I went for an early morning drive to pick it up in Cerritos, the traffic was not bad at all. I haven't opened the box yet but they said it was tested so it should all be good. I got some good practice carrying bulky heavy boxes, I think the scope is manageable.
