Another Adapter Issue

#1

Post by Astrovetteman »

I’m thinking about getting a new mount (CGX-L) but I can’t find an adapter for my Polemaster. It has to go where the polar scope would go cause I use a side-by-side set up. Or, for those of you who have this mount.....is a Polemaster necessary, or does the All Star Polar Align do a good enough job to get 20-30 minute guided exposures?? Also, how does ASPA work??
Thanks!!
Tom

Hi Tom,

The Celestron ASPA at times gives a spurious outcome. It's can get you as close as inside of one minute and other times it can't do better than 10 minutes of the NCP. These results are usable for visual observing, but not AP. The other problem is that after the ASPA routine, and after you've updated the goto alignment, the HC will show an error value of x and after you recycle the power and realign the mount it'll show you an error value of y. I think a Polemaster telescope would greatly increase your chances of getting consistently much closer to the NCP.

Cheers,
JT

Hey JT, thanks for the info! Since I use a side by side (optical tubes at parked position point East), I don't think anything but Polemaster would work....the only problem is no one makes an adapter for the Polemaster/CGX-L!! I don't know if just putting double sided Gorilla tape or liquid nails to the back of the Polemaster and then sticking it to the CGX-L spot where the polar alignment scope would go might work!! I'd hate to spend $3,600 on a paperweight!!
Thanks for your reply!!
