Now that's one cool camera, but... it's not cooled.
(Ok, ok, I don't really know anything about AP, but I felt that remark was clever enough that I had to say it. Enjoy drooling!)
p.s. I had to look up "double nickel." How could you be 10? Aha, 55, now I get it...

Yeah, age...

Sammy Hagar - I Can't Drive 55

And you're right; it's not cooled! Trust me, I know zip about AP, but you're right, a cooled camera just sounds so much better..!!

Not to intrude on nFA's thread, but one of my infrequent hobbies is HDTV antenna's. I have a stealth-hawk on the roof (OTA Canuck) I welded from steel round bar, and covered in copper piping. I dropped cable because of this :D

And I also found out that since Covid 19 boredom, beer cans can pick up about 12 channels, depending on the weather. And that's from the basement!

nFA, my sincere apologies, I'll stop now ;)

Yup back 10 years ago Sammy Hagar's song was my mantra, plus it was true!

That camera costs as much as my new CEM 60 mount. I got a lot more mass for my money (dollar per pound rating) by purchasing the mount.

Cheers,

Clearly a fine high quality piece of kit. But you could get all this for the same money:

https://www.firstlightoptics.com/zwo-ca ... undle.html

Don't mean to get the watering can out on your fireworks but I'm currently going through a cost/spec/pixel size/sampling/arcseconds/FOV comparison exercise myself. Since I can't afford the one I want it's down to do I want to spend a shed load on what I don't really want!

My birthday is in August, decisions decisions!

Enjoy the drooling! :D

Regards

Graeme

All the best,
Mark recite after me, it's just a camera, a camera I tell ya... But a nice one, it's very tempting, but I am spent out until doomsday... Buy a bucket, that's cheaper.
Cheers,

Tony.

It’s okay to drool!

I am really not sure, but I believe that the Ra is full frame and might not work to well on scopes with less than 2 1/2” focusers.

Also, very pricey!

Look what Steve STEVE333 , JT JayTee and others have done with the T3i!

You gotta wonder about the design engineers over at Canon. They say it is an "Astro" DSLR. We all know that payload weight is a huge deal for most of our imaging mounts. But do they care or notice that this may be a factor in our purchasing decision? Apparently not because they produced a full-frame big ol' heavy DSLR (the camera body alone weighs 660 g) to affix to our OTA's. Hmmm

I wouldn't be too concerned about the weight. A cooled camera like the ZWO1600mm with a loaded 8 position filter wheel is heavier. Camera-410 g, Filter Wheel 400 g, Probably another 50 g for the 7 filters.
Trevor from AstroBackyard did an awesome review of the camera. Being in the desert, and doing most of my imaging in the summer when temps are pushing 110° even at midnight, I don't think it would be a good fit for me. But folks in cooler climates not wishing to deal with mono cameras/filters, this might be a great option.
Also, It's not a DSLR, it's mirrorless.
