Over Geared for EAA?

#1

Post by rml63 »

Hello All,

I have recently been investigating eq, eq/az and high end alt/az mounts. What I really want to do is EAA/Video astronomy. While I admit you do need a tracking mount it has occurred to me that it does not have to be an expensive mount. I am enjoying my Ioptron Skyguider pro but I would like goto and a handset with a database.

I have investigated Vixen mounts (thank you Gabrielle) and the SW AZEQ 5and6 . All of these mounts would be more than capable for video astronomy with some future proofing for AP if required.

My question is am I looking at the right mounts should I be looking at say SW eq35m?, heq5, or celestron cgem these mounts would certainly do EAA and save some money to boot.

As far as a camera goes I would like to buy from a Canadian company (Mallincam), I am interested in the Universe ii and the Skyraider series of cameras. I will be using a Sw BKP 130mm f5 reflector as my main imaging scope.

If I am way off in my mount and camera interests someone please point me in the right direction. :observer:

Thanks
Mike

iOptron used to sell a goto conversion kit for some of their mounts, a possibility?
Finding a used mount such as a Celestron ASGT or AVX would be a good choice and should be reasonably priced as well.

Depending on the size of telescope you are using here is a current ad for a Skywatcher EQ3 Pro (a EQ-4 equivalent with goto) with around a 20lb capacity for $500 CDN
