ISS - Live as shot

#1

Post by DMouse »

Hi, here is tonight's video of the ISS pass. This is the first time I have managed to get my PMX+ to track the ISS and get a decent video out of it. To say I'm excited is an understatement!
Anyway here is a link to the video on YouTube

That is awesome Paul! How did you make it so smooth?

Also what were your Gain and Exp time settings with the 178?

I used the SkyXPro and downloaded the latest TLE's for the ISS. I also did a mount recalibration with the video setup so the mount was pointing as accurate as possible.
Once the ISS came above the horizon I clicked track satellite in the SkyXPro. This brings up a window where you can change the tracking offset position.
With a little practice you can move the satellite around the video screen.
Shutter=5.000ms
Gain=5000 (100%)
AutoExposure=off
SoftwareGain=10 (off)
Gamma=150

Thanks for the settings, still working on the settings for my AD12, had it too bright tonight, I moved up from an 8"Dob.
Vut that is simply Amazing, what kind of mounts are able to run that SkyXpro?

Most mounts work with the SkyXPro, but only the Software Bisque mounts can use the Satellite tracking feature. So the MyT, MX+ and ME mounts.

Man that must be cool.I guess I will have to stick with using my Dob for it :) T

Tomorrow night, I got an 82 Degree Flyby and just locked my focuser and such and left it out till tomorrow because it's supposed to happen right after sunset and no time to focus and check alignment.

Here were my Firecapture settings tonight with a zwo290mm.
ROI(Offset)=0x0
FPS (avg.)=166
Shutter=0.288ms
Gain=346 (57%)
SoftwareGain=10 (off)
Brightness=1 (off)

Update - I have been playing with Castrator and PIP, and managed a stacked image of 100 frames. Here is the result.

Very nice! I also love shooting the ISS. I have a satellite tracking software for my AVX, but haven’t had a chance to use it yet. I’ve been manually chasing the ISS by literally just hand holding an OTA in my hand and aiming like a rifle while recording video. Obviously it isn’t that smooth, but I get a bunch of frames and crop and center them with Pipp and make them into Avis. This is my best one. Shot with a 5” APO AT 950mm
