WinJUpos Capture time Questions

#1

Post by TheButcher »

Hey all,

I was wondering if there is a length of time/or number of stacked frames I should be aiming for to capture Jupiter for WinJupos? Also should I do separate stacks in some sort of sequence? For example, take 3 minutes of Jupiter then stop and take another 3 minutes ect…

I figure I am up all night imaging and taking advantage of a clear night and around 4:30, I will pop in my new 178mc with my RC8 and try to get some imaging on Jupiter so I have practice files to learn Winjupos. I don't think I am ready to put my 290mm yet with the filter wheel for Winjupos since I never imaged planets in mono yet, but will as Jupiter gets closer and learn how WIn Jupos works.

Thanks All :)

What capture software do you use? , I only know of one software that will embed the exact time of the object
being captured which is firecapture. I've not masterd both firecapture and winjupos yet, still learning, I do about 4 sets, rgb, rgb, rgb, rgb ectt I stack each filter, so I'll have 4 reds, 4 green and then 4 blue then derotate the reds, blue and greens then stack, I think this is correct . I suppose you can go as long as you want for a target, I think the way winjupos derotation works is that it stacks the good/usable data in the middle ie derotated and the edges should contain less data or a soften edge. From what I've read that some images contain almost an hour of data for saturn and about 30 mins for Jupiter!

Any how I certainly need some more help on this aswell. I'll keep a look out if I find anything.

Thanks Yobbo,

I primarily use Fire Capture and sometimes Sharpcap. That sounds like what I saw online last night. I don't know if that is correct, As I yet to use my 290mm but with the OSC 178mc I took multiple (3 sets of 3 minutes each and I did each set a different exposure levels and used a 1.5x and 2x barlow along with no Barlow incase the seeing was bad since Jupiter was only at 20degrees then the sun came up). I just hope one of those sets of 3 works.

I guess that is somewhere to start and play around with it for me. it will be cloudy and rainy here the next couple of nights so I figure its a good time to play with WInjupos and learn it.

I have always intended to use WinJupos, I just have never "found" the time to do so. Laziness and fear of the time suck to learn new software are very formidable forces.

Cheers,
