Processing, the need and some issues

My encounter with imaging M42 on my Celestron 102 OTA showed me the power of a fast (albeit cheap) refractor. The issue, as warned of here, is CA. I'm saving up for a Bresser Fringe Killer (thanks Lady Fraktor), but in the meantime, I have played with both the Astronomy tools action set and AstroFlat.

The action to take out violet fringes works well, and being able to use it in a selection works well, but some repair work is needed. Currently doing this with the spot healing brush in PS CC.

AstroFlat I like (so much I bought it), but in my inexpert hands, the image lost a bit of punch. Anyone have recommended settings?

Ah yes, using the flat as a layer work much better and adds back some pop.
