RAW.... I've wasted sooo much time!!! Help???!!!???

#1

Post by Scott Maze »

Took some raw photos at the beach of milkyway... cant open, cant convert, read how to edit but my program sucks... my 10 year old girl helped me... so great memories... goal is to get 3 to 5 of the good ones to look a little like the internet photos... but not expecting too much as the originals were on samsung 7 pro settings 10 seconds, iso 800 and wb @ 5500. did get 2 of them converted to quality jpeg using online converter but the file wont save(thats how they get you!)

Will someone preview and eliminate all but 3 or 4 or 5 best. then edit to look better... not expecting internet results... just good memories. then let me pay a fair price for each?

Please help?

Thank you,

Scott Maze Stockbridge GA

I dont check email every day but will follow up in a couple days ish...

This says convert for free, so maybe try it out (Disclaimer: I've never used or heard of this program so USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!):
https://download.cnet.com/Free-Online-R ... 17227.html

As yobbo said, you can also give us a link to download the files and see what you've got. Lots of us with DSLRs shoot in RAW :)

Here, just download and use this free image viewer/converter/manipulator, it's called Irfanview. From there you should be able to at least see what you've got.

Windows 10 will display a preview of a RAW file in File Explorer:

I use PIPP (free download) to convert RAW files to TIFF files.

These are the raw originals... not fancy just want the memories... good quality jpegs is the goal from the RAW ones.

I tried ifranview but was missing some kind of additional download... that was a late night... sadly I have windows 7... hated giving up XP!!!

Thanks sincerely to all... Scott Maze

I had a go, there really isn't much data at all, it's all noise.

I am afraid there isn't much to work with. The file type (DNG) is not a commonly-used one, and none of my software can read it.

I did see the pictures in thumbnail form in Dropbox. The signal is low and the noise level is high. I don't think it will be possible to rescue them. At least one that I saw is quite out of focus.

Your best bet would be to re-shoot them. Mount the camera on a tripod and take 30-second exposures at whatever is the highest ISO setting you have.
