Mp4 no good?

#1

Post by maceemiller »

Hi all.

So I got a new camera app for my smartphone (I know!)

It produces excellent results filming anything so I thought I'd try the Moon. Looks great with eyepiece projection however when I ask PIPP or AS3/Registax 6 to do anything with it they seem to struggle and give terrible results.

I've used AVI videos before and they all seem to work "normally"?

I've read mp4 is a compressed format. Is there anyway to uncompress into AVI or have I no idea what I'm talking about!

Thanks in advance....

Keep focused!

You don't say what type of OS you have - But, winFF (linux and windoze) can make the conversion.

I'm on windows 7 and have winFF however AS3 says it needs an uncompressed AVI after I convert from the MP4?

Tonight I tried using Format Factory....same AS3 result?

You will need to find a conversion program which will change from MP4 to that uncompressed AVI. I'm not sure what is the best software for that today, but years ago I know that VirtualDub was being used for that type of thing: http://www.virtualdub.org/

Do remember, however, that MP4 compression is not lossless so you will have some loss of detail due to your camera's use of that format. You may still be happy with the results.

Still havnt managed to find an AVI converter that will do the job.

I've cropped my video with shotcut and exported to TIFF.
When I get back to my pc I'll try and see what happens and post any relevant info here.
