This was from a post in the Competition Submissions section but it was getting a bit off topic.

Ok here is what I've done.

Using StarTools 1.5:

Chose Is linear, was bayered, not white balanced.
Autodev, keep
Bin, 25%, keep
Crop, somewhat centering object, keep
Wipe, dark anomaly filter to 5 pixels, do, keep
Develop, redo global stretch, home-in to 88.89%
Sharp, amount to 150%, small detail bias to about 90%, keep
Contrast, accept defaults, keep
Color, saturation to 315%, pulled Red slider back to 1.10%, keep
Life, accept defaults, do, keep
Stop tracking, final noise reduction, save as TIFF

Opened in Photoshop, performed a "save for web" reduction to a PNG file for posting.

Man, that is a large image! It made my gamer laptop grunt a little when I first opened in StarTools.

The binning took care of that. :D

Just a quick processing. It is nearly 0100 hrs and I have to get up in about 4.5 hours, so I'm going to call it good enough for the time being.

Cheers Bryan, That's brilliant!

Wipe, dark anomaly filter to 5 pixels, do, keep. - Looks like a useful tool for dust motes.

Sharp, amount to 150%, small detail bias to about 90%, keep. - I tend to do the sharpening at the end. Is the order of events significant?

Contrast, accept defaults, keep. Is that what has kept your background black? When I increased the saturation I ended up with an overall red cast.

Color, saturation to 315%, pulled Red slider back to 1.10%, keep. - So is that saturate all colours and then a bit more on the red? Gimp has a Saturation tool and a seperate Hue-Saturation tool.

Got to go and have another look at some other images I've recorded now!

Regards

Graeme

moderate histogram stretch
automatic background extraction
copy image/lum mask
star mask for diringing
apply lum mask to image
deconvolution using externa psf, with dering mask and lum mask,30 iterations
have a good sleep, come back several hours later
deconvolution almost done

curves transformation/saturation 50% increase/cie-c component 50%,rgb/k 50% with cut off to lower histogram to clip noise of background, small tweak with r/g/b curvs with a background cut off.

crop
tvg denoise
atrouswavelet transformation to further decrease noise on the fine scale

rescale to 70%

save as jpeg

this was done with an unmodified dslr ? has weak signal in the ha area, also the image was drizzled ?

Also it seems your scope might need collimation, tail like stars, could be tracking but it more looks like collimation is out

Cheers Yobbo

That's a lovely bright image. Really must go and revisit some old stuff! What software would you use for wavelet after the processing?

Yes, an unmodded Canon 600d, dithered in DSS (I think!)

all the processing i did was done in pixinsight ,i actually process my day to day dslr images with it too, similar or if not most of the techniques probably could be done in other software like photoshop ectt.
sometimes i'll use gimp if i need to blend two frames together to have a better dynamic range other then that pi is what i'm accustomed to now.

it's pretty complicated at first for the advance stuff, they have a forum for it,not too many video tutorials for the harder parts but the forum instructions are not too hard to follow. i save a bunch of links to tutorials that correspond my processing techniques in order and keep them in a folder, writing a list from start to finish on things to do really helps, as you can see the order of things i did in the post i made from your data

https://pixinsight.com

star tools is another popular one aswell
