Quick Registax question

#1

Post by Ylem »

I just downloaded and opened up my first image taken with my new Orion Starshoot USB camera.

The problem I am having is saving it (it's an AVI file). Also I tried emailing it to myself for possible upload here but it's 117M, way too big to email, tried compressing as a zip file, no luck.

What am I missing?

Thanks!

Sincerely Big Dummy trying AP ;)

Edit; speling.

Hi Jeff,

I take single pictures with a DSLR. Your camera records in AVI which is actually a video format (hence the size). Registax (and PIPP) is used to take individual frames from that video file and enable you to stack the best of the bunch.

Never having used a camera like yours, I'm not too sure the process in Registax or even PIPP for that matter on how to do it. As well, what did you record? If it's lunar, solar or planetary I would use Registax or preferably PIPP, but if it's deep sky, that uses other software which I know not even the tiniest bit about

Hope this helps. Sincerely Big Dummy here who's still trying his hand at AP... ;)

No deep sky for me, but I did capture a tree branch with lovely purple fringing :)

I can't seem to get it to focus on any other thing at the moment.
I just took it out of the box and stuck it in the ST80 to confirm it works.
