How to Simulate The Hubble Pallette on OSC Images

#1

Post by Juno16 »

Hi All,

I am usually one of the last people to find things out. When I do, I am amazed, and everyone else already knows!

Well, just in case this might be of any help (or fun) to anyone, I want to share a technique that I learned today when I was on the treadmill (I get my education from YouTube).

How to simulate the Hubble Pallete from OSC images in Pixinsight.

Now, I am a big fan of the natural redness associated to emission nebulae, but just for fun, I saw this video on Youtube this morning that I thought that I would try out.

There are probably many, many videos out there, but this is the one that I watched/followed today and it was very simple and straightforward. Just a simple process, no frills.
The only thing that I added was to run default ACDN on the non-linear version.

Looking for data to try this out on was challenging. I found an image of the heart of the Heart Nebula shot with the L-eNhance filter that I originally processed in Photoshop. I only had lights and darks, no flats or flat darks.

I ran the WBPP script on the data and ran through the steps in the video. Maybe 15 minutes of post processing. I am sure that there is a lot more that could be done, but I was just playing around.

I have no real feel for what the colors should look like, but this is interesting (and fun!)

I hope that someone might find this interesting!
